A wide angle on soaring

I had a very pleasant day’s gliding on Monday and managed to get some video with my new GoPro camera.

I concentrated on flying the aircraft rather than taking pictures (wise, eh!) so I didn’t manage to video the landing. I think the camera overheated or ran out of battery – anyway it wouldn’t work. Here’s a still. (video below).

My flight was an hour and 20 minutes. I could have stayed up longer but there were a couple of other guys wanting to fly the Astir, so I had to return. Obviously, we have to share the club gliders and can’t be too greedy with them.

I also had a trip with Dave Sedman, the instructor for the day. That was my second check flight for a passenger-carrying approval. So now I can take passengers – yay! I mentioned this to Viv and Chris, but they didn’t seem all that keen on taking up the offer. Sigh!

The passenger carrying briefings were very thorough. They were aimed mostly at making sure you give the passenger a comfortable flight and are alert to any signs that they are feeling uncomfortable or unwell. The gliders bounce around a bit when there are thermals about and this can sometimes make people feel a bit queasy.

Jan is keen to be my first victim. (Evil chuckle!)
