Bon voyage Alexei

Nephew Alexei has departed on the next leg of his travels. He’s in Cairns for a Daintree experience then he’ll be embarking on a “liveaboard” diving trip on the barrier reef. He’s an experienced diver and is looking forward to it. (He learned to dive in the freezing cold flooded gravel pits near Heathrow airport!) Then he’s off to Perth to stay with his sister for a while.

We had a farewell dinner at Fratelli in Majors Bay Road with Viv and Chris and Alexei. A great Italian restaurant. We hadn’t been for ages because it changed hands, but must go again. Good vibe these days in the heart of Concord, lots of restaurants and cafes. It’s been good catching up with Alexei – we hadn’t seen him for a long time.

Then we were out again on Thursday night with Pam and Steve. We had a drink at their house in Drummoyne first. They have a balcony with a nice view over the water at Iron Cove.

Then we went to a nearby Japanese fusion restaurant – Umii Modern Izakaya. Very good grub. Some Japanese classics with some interesting variations.

Life changes for me today as I head off for Cootamundra for 10 days at gliding camp. I’m hoping for some good hot weather to trigger big thermals and help me reach my goal of a 500 kilometre flight. The food won’t be quite as good there but there’s some great cafes and good coffee.

Here’s a good pic that Chris took of our gathering for Viv’s birthday (see previous post).

Eunice, me, Jan and Viv at the birthday gathering.
