Wednesday. We had a lovely time in London . We drove to Bedford (30 mins) and took the fast train to St Pancras (40 mins, £24 return each including underground tickets.) I went to the Imperial War Museum (lovely tanks!) while Jan met an old school friend she hadn’t seen since she was 16. They went together to look around their old school, Godolphin and Latymer in London (Francha Leale Toge). We met later for a meal. Bonnie had chosen a lovely Italian restaurant – Strada – a big contemporary place right on the embankment with a terrific view across to Tower Bridge and the Tower of London . Food was good and the prices not too bad at all – about £10 for mains. That bit of London , next to the amazing building housing the London Council offices was newly developed with some very impressive new glass office towers and some restorations of old wharf buildings. Bonnie’s husband came along. Jan knew him as well because Bonnie and he were sweethearts (wonderful word that!) when they were 16. Nice people. They live near Hampton Court with a back garden going down to the river and a boat parked there. The Imperial War Museum was an interesting place. As well as planes, tanks and guns, there was a trench experience (dark and scary but they didn’t shoot you) and a Blitz experience (dark and scary but they didn’t bomb you).
