Life firsts

Two firsts yesterday – my first Pilates session and (after 23 years in this city) my first ride in a Sydney bus.
The Pilates, a free lunchtime session for Council staff, was a lot rougher and tougher than I imagined. There was some strenuous work on “core strength” – known as that because when going from a downward dog to a plank you tend to exclaim “Cor, that hurts!”
I left with wobbly legs and a slight dizzy feeling which I do not think was euphoria. I might try it again.
The bus was to get from work to Newtown to meet Jan and some friends, Tristan and Amanda, for dinner. The train station wasn’t anywhere near the restaurant so I asked my colleagues about bus routes and they gave me lots of helpful tips. I went to the right place and asked a bus driver who wasn’t going to the right bit of Newtown but told me which bus to catch. The bus was fine, smooth, comfortable, but brought me into uncomfortably close proximity to common people and scruffy students. Damn! I should have brought some hand sanitiser to protect me from their germs. I left the dinner with a slight dizzy feeling which I do not think was euphoria and probably something to do with alcohol. Caught a taxi home.
